Astria Oboe Festival: Paris during the Roaring Twenties
Just like last year, Vooruit joins forces with oboe trio Astria. Last time we remembered Viennese masters at Vyncke NV, this time we will bring the atmosphere of Paris in the 1920s to the 21st century. This during the very first Astria Oboe Festival, which will take place in the old church in Vichte, on 3, 4 and 5 November 2017.
The 1920s were marked by a revival of the arts after the horrors of WWI. Several art movements of individual choices originated in a reaction against the Great War: rethinking the past ('neo' styles), radically focussing on the future (futurism) or fleeing in absurdism (dadaism). During the concert, we will bring a number of works by composers who were active in Paris during this period. The lively artistic climate of this city gave life to an incredible variety of styles and music. For each of the works, we will make the connection to poetry and painting, presenting the audience with a broad view on this exciting decennium.
